The year was 1922, and English archeologist Howard Carter had been told he had one last chance to uncover something incredible in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings or he would lose funding for all further expeditions. Under mounting pressure, he returned to a site he had earlier abandoned and set again to work. Before 1922 was over, Carter was a household name. With the help of his team, he had uncovered King Tutankhamun’s tomb. And the sarcophagus of King Tut’s mummy, his famous headdress, and the thousands of artifacts within the tomb reignited Western fervor for all things Egyptian. Intoxicated by peculiar wonder of the tomb’s contents, Art Deco artisans began to look to ancient Egypt for design inspiration. And it is this fascination with the unfamiliar we have to thank for the brilliant Art Deco Pin.

Crafted from 14K gold and enamel, the geometric lines and shades of blue that adorn this unique pin hearken back to the age when riveting tales of discovery took days to make the rounds of the world rather than seconds. The last word in stylishly casual accoutrement, this Art Deco pin began its existence as a wearable Egyptian adventure, and it continues to transport us—if only in our imagination—to the thrilling times and sites of long ago.
