In a world where countless pieces of jewelry are gifted as emblems of adoration felt, we are particularly smitten by the creations of Van Cleef & Arpels. Every piece of their expansive collection owes its very existence to the long-ago love story of Alfred Van Cleef and Estelle Arpels. Married in Paris in 1985, Alfred and Estelle were no strangers to the art of exquisite jewelry as the son of a lapidary and the daughter of a dealer in precious gems. Collaborating with Estelle’s father and two of her brothers, Alfred Van Cleef opened the first Van Cleef & Arpels boutique at 22 Place Vendôme in Paris in 1906, and approximately three to four decades later, the Vintage Van Cleef & Arpels Collar was designed to delight and dazzle.
Exquisitely crafted in the 1940s when gold was scarce due to World War II, this Van Cleef & Arpels masterpiece features a tubogas chain of 18K gold and twinkling diamonds at its center. With a limited supply of materials, Van Cleef & Arpels continued to innovate in a way that allowed for maximum visual impact while using a minimum amount of the precious stones and metals considered vital to the war effort. This vintage collar makes it clear to see why they have been hailed as experts at their craft ever since their inception at the turn of the 20th century.
A stunning necklace that stands out however it is worn, this vintage Van Cleef & Arpels collar is history and magic embodied in one brilliant treasure.
