Throughout much of the world, diamonds are known as the jewel of love. Between the fall of the Roman Empire and the Renaissance, though, diamonds symbolized bravery and valor. As such, these gemstones were once considered appropriate only for men to wear, though courage is not defined by gender. King Louis IV actually went so far as to forbid women from wearing diamonds, and that ban lasted for 200 years until Mary of Burgundy—a badass in her own right—donned the first diamond engagement ring in 1477.
The Vintage Diamond Heart Ring is clearly a magnificent piece of jewelry with excellent finger coverage and shimmer for days. But given the history of sexism in the wearing of diamonds, we like to think it is so much more than that. This radiant ring—with a full carat of diamonds set in 14K gold—is a testament to a bold heart, an audacious soul. To wear it is to dare to shine.
