Custom Projects

Here at The Moonstoned, we believe that special made pieces are the heirlooms that will tell your story for generations to come. Every detail and stone placement intend to weave a moment in time, a celebration of self or a treasured milestone.

It's simply magic.

Let's make something beautiful together!

Step 1: Booking

Fill out the form at the bottom of this page to email info@themoonstoned.com and schedule your video consultation with Elizabeth.
We schedule virtual design consultation appointments Monday-Friday 9am-4pm. All custom work begins with a $5,000 non-refundable retainer and varies quite a bit, depending on what you're hoping to create. Yes, the retainer will go towards the eventual price of your design! We ask for this up front as we buy items before they're sent to us, pay for shipping, and cover all of the time invested by our team to facilitate such a special and intricate process.
Book with your initial design ideas, your desired deadline, and what your ballpark budget is. (Financing available, learn more about the eligibility threshold, policies and terms here.)

Step 2: Design Consultation

Once you book your design consultation with Elizabeth, you’ll be working together through the entire process, while The Moonstoned Team will be available for support.

If you have heirloom jewelry or loose stones that you want to incorporate, this is when you’ll show us. You can send any inspiration photos beforehand, or share with us during the meeting, totally up to you!

We’ll talk about who the jewelry is for, what makes this endeavor special, and any design ideas or sentiments you would like to incorporate. You don’t need to know anything about jewelry, diamonds, or design, we're here for you every step of the way! By the end of the meeting, we’ll have a solid idea of your design style, a ballpark budget and the timeline for moving forward.

Step 3 (Optional): Sketching

Depending on your jewelry dreams, we’ll take all of your inspiration, ideas, and specifications and bring them to life on paper with a critical eye toward durability, timeless design, structural integrity, and staying within your budget.

We’ll email you several sketches. If you're confident in one particular design, we will move forward!

Otherwise, we will schedule a video consultation to go through feedback and revisions until you are absolutely delighted by the design!

Then we'll get started hunting down the perfect stones for you.

Step 4: Visual

Elizabeth responsibly sources all stones and components, just for you, based on your design, ethics, desired quality, and budget. A range of options will be available and we will send you images/videos to see and select each component to make your jewelry dreams come true.
We'll communicate with you every step of the way and be clear about cost estimates so there are no surprises. If we come across some dazzling options that will increase the budget, we'll make sure you're aware of the estimates before any decisions are made. If we're able to come in under budget, the price difference will be passed along to you (beyond the non-refundable retainer).
Please note: Additional expert appraisals are available at this point in the process and will be added to your final project total if you decide to move forward with this option. This will increase the projected timeline by +1-2 weeks.

Step 5: Production

If your project is complex, it will require a CAD design.
We work as a team to precisely engineer your design into a 3D CAD model.
Once approved, we take the 3D concept to metal and make a casting of your design.
Then we hand set your stones and add texture, finishing details, polish and hand engraving.

Step 6: Final Showing

When your dream jewelry has arrived at The Moonstoned HQ it will go through one last inspection. Once approved, Elizabeth will either send a video or schedule a final video consultation with you to model the newly crafted design. She'll also talk about care and cleaning, insurance information, and diamond or gemstone certification if/when applicable.

Once finalized, an invoice will be sent for the remaining balance.

Step 7: Delivery

When the final invoice is paid, we'll ship directly to you!

For more information about shipping, please see our shipping policies here.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How long does the process take?

While this entire process, start to finish, is incredibly variable; we aim to complete projects within a 2-4 month window from consultation date. If you need your project expedited, please let us know, and we will do our best to accommodate. There are certain steps we can either skip or revisit at a later date (such as additional appraisals and engraving).

What videoing platform do you use?

We have access to a range of platforms, including our preferred list below:

Zoom, Google Meets and/or WhatsApp

If you prefer a certain platform, especially one not listed above, please let us know and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Is there a fee for booking additional consultations?

Yes, there is a $450 fee for booking additional 45 minute consultations outside of the three consultations and email correspondence offered in your custom design process. This booking fee is non-refundable and does not go toward the total of your purchase. This fee covers all the labor and overhead expenses incurred, as well as potential access to proprietary information, without the pressure to commit to proceeding with us before you're ready.

What if I’m not sure of what I want exactly?

Most people aren’t sure, and that's okay! Even if you do come in with very clear ideas, it’s common for ideas to change after learning more about the durability of different stones, metals, or certain styles.

Can you work around my schedule?

We will do our best to accommodate your schedule. We generally accept appointments Monday-Friday 9AM-3PM EST. Email anne@TheMoonstoned.com for scheduling assistance.

Can I book a meeting with you if I live outside of your timezone?

Absolutely! We work with many clients overseas or elsewhere in North and South America. When booking, make sure you let us know your time zone, and we'll do our best to accommodate.

What should I prepare for consultations?

You don’t need to prepare anything for consultations; it’s our job to help guide you toward the best options for your unique style. Inspiration photos and having some idea of what you like and don’t like is helpful, but not necessary. If you’re making jewelry for someone else, having access to their Pinterest board or showing us photos of them/their style can help to facilitate the process.

Why does the CAD look like that?

It’s common for people to have questions about the 3D rendering of their design; the CAD model looks bigger, bulkier, and more mechanical than the resulting fine jewelry will, but it’s a very important part of the engineering process. This is our chance to catch any flaws or errors in the design and production processes.
